Sambar Cucumber Can Be Grown Easily By Using Better Quality Seeds

Characterized by their larger,  oval shape, these cucumbers are primarily featured in cooked dishes. Upon ripening, the fruit displays eye-catching orange stripes. It is widely used in culinary traditions, they often find a place in dishes like sambar.

Growing:

It is a creeping vine plant. They grow well in loose, well-draining soil.

Germination Time:

Cucumber seeds usually sprout within three to ten days, especially in warm temperatures. Cucumbers are easy to grow.

Feed:

Provide a balanced fertilizer to support healthy growth.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the hot summer months.

Sunlight:

Cucumbers love sunlight, so ensure they get at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.

Sow cucumber seeds directly in the soil, spacing them apart to allow for proper growth.  Plant cucumber seeds at a depth of half an inch. For vining varieties, sow seeds two inches apart, leaving two to three feet of space on either side of the row to accommodate spreading vines. Alternatively, create a “hill” by planting three or four seeds close together for efficient cucumber cultivation.

Harvest when the cucumbers are firm and about 6-8 inches long for the best flavor.  Harvesting time for most cucumber varieties typically falls between 50-70 days from the seed planting date. Cucumbers should be harvested at a young and tender stage.
