Hello friends! I’m back again with another video which is dedicated to all the mothers/women who have lived their lives in the four walls of the kitchen. My inspiration behind creating this video is the latest Malayalam movie – The Great Indian Kitchen. This is not a movie review, but my thoughts after watching it. This movie can relate old generation mothers or women than women of this period. Because now men understand more about women’s work pressures and they are ready to help them as well.In case, if anyone thinks that kitchen chores are so simple and they neglect their hardships, The Great Indian Kitchen can definitely make a change in their mindsets.
I was thinking why we all ladies are always complaining about kitchen chores even if we have all the modern facilities in our kitchens.I just remembered about the period where my mom lived. She was the eldest one in a farming family, married at the age of 18 and came to a big farming family of 10 members. We can assume the household chores of ladies in that period. But I haven’t heard her complaining about these things.
Later we settled as a nuclear family. She was doing all the jobs, even then. I was a little lazy to do these kitchen chores and she has never compelled me to do that. Then, I was married and when I reached my husband’s family, I didn’t know anything about cooking. My husband’s mother taught me all these.
I asked my mom later, why don’t you have any complaints about anything? She said “why should I complain? I am working for my husband, kids and parents. I am working for my family.” Her answer made me think about many things.
1. I could realize that the change in our mentality is the main reason behind all these problems. Now we all have shrunk to ourselves. We have lost our broad minded nature.
2. Women are working like men and they earn as equal as or more than them. So she cannot handle both office and household jobs herself. Husband has to help her for sure.
3. Before it was a joint family, so all women helped each other. In today’s nuclear families, husband and wife have to help each other.
4. In olden days, ladies got married in their early age and they didn’t get the opportunity to study more or to get a job. Normally men worked for the family for earnings and ladies were stuck into the kitchen with the household chores. It was their world, and so they had no complaints.
5. One more reason I felt is,women have made these men a bit lazy. Because even if men come to the kitchen to help them, they will tease them with some silly words.
So, what I am saying is, there won’t be any sudden change in men’s mindset after watching “The Great Indian Kitchen”. But changes will occur gradually. What we can do is, let’s train our boys to do some work in the kitchen. Let them know that the kitchen is not only for girls. This way, we can definitely expect changes in the future. Let all our kitchens be more beautiful with the presence of our men 🙂 Thanks for watching my video.
