Major Tourist Destinations in Kochi

 

Kochi the “Queen of the Arabian Sea” proudly claims the foremost position in tourist spots in Kerala,  drawing thousands of tourists every year. This city is the sixth-major tourist destination in India. Kochi is a major port city.

Kochi holds a rich historical and traditional heritage. It was engaged in trade with Europeans, including the Dutch and the English, shaping its enduring cultural legacy. Kochi is located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala.

Major Tourist Destinations in Kochi

Fort Kochi:

Fort Kochi is famous for its Dutch, Portuguese, and British Colonial architecture. It has a charming seaside area.

  1. Mattancherry Palace: It is a popular tourist attraction that features Kerala murals depicting Hindu temple art, portraits, and exhibits of Rajas of Kerala. This palace is preserved as a Museum by the Archeological  Department of Kerala.
  2. Jew Town: The narrow street between Mattancherry Palace and Paradesi synagogue. This land has preserved the relics of Jews history for the sake of travelers. Jew Street offers shopping like antiques, carvings, Kerala crafts, and aromatic spices.
  3. Chinese nets: Tourists can witness Chinese fishing nets from Fort Kochi Beach. Chinese fishing nets, called Cheenavala, are made from teak wood and bamboo poles, cantilevered on logs, and used for fishing in Kerala, India. They feature a unique design, with counterweights for lowering and raising the nets. Vasco da Gama Square offers a captivating view of these nets.
  4. Fort Kochi Beach: Opening up to the breathtaking beaches of God’s Own Country: unwind, admire beauty, and enjoy a tranquil sunset cruise to the harbor. It is close to Vasco da Gama Square. In Fort Kochi Beach, the granite walkway and lighthouse are the main attractions.
  5. Willingdon Island: Willingdon Island is the largest Island in India. This island is a hub for the Kochi Naval Base of the Indian Navy, the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, and the Kochi  Port.
  6. .Other places to visit in Fort Kochi are Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Vasco da Gama Square, and Baston Bungalow., Kochi Biennale, Bolgatty Palace, Marine Drive.

Getting there: Fort Kochi is 36.5 kilometers from the Kochi International Airport.
