Onam is the most favourite festival of Malayalis. Since it is the harvest festival of Kerala, all Malayalis across the world celebrate it without fail. Through celebrating festivals, we are actually passing our traditions and culture to the next generation through our kids. So guys, though it is simple, we shouldn’t hesitate to celebrate any of our festivals. The story of Mahabali and his visit to see all of us every year will make our kids understand and enjoy the history of Onam.
Though this Onam arrived in this pandemic season, we Malayalis cannot avoid celebrating Onam right? We too celebrated it in the simplest way. This video is about our small Onam celebration.
Arranging pookkalam is the most interesting part of celebrating Onam. Normally pookkalam is done for ten days from the day of Atham. But we did it only for one day. Instead of buying flowers from the market, we plucked some beautiful flowers from our neighbourhood and kids arranged a small cute pookkalam in our corridor.
We arranged banana leaves from a nearby shop on the previous night itself. Onam Sadya on a banana leaf is another main part of celebrating Onam. The Sadya is with a variety of vegetable curries along with different types of payasams.
Festivals always give us great cheer and joy along with hope and positive thoughts for the future. Onam is not exceptional from this. This Onam 2020 is with a lot of restrictions, but let’s hope we can celebrate it with more freedom and joy next year. Happy Onam Wishes to you all!!!
