Diet and Pregnancy | what to eat during pregnancy? [Part-1]

The well-known Dr. Veena Choodamani specializes in obstetrics, gynecology, and gynecological laparoscopic surgery in Trivandrum, India.

In this article, Dr. Veena Choodamani explains how to control your diet during pregnancy.

It is not necessary to “eat for two” while you’re pregnant, contrary to popular belief. Controlling your portions is a key element of eating a healthy diet. Keep things simple when you’re trying to eat healthily. Pregnant women rarely need to eat extra food until the third trimester. Exercise may require you to consume additional 200 calories. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Focus on trying to eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Going low-carb during pregnancy is not a good idea. Besides, providing energy, carbohydrates can also provide fiber (you need all the fiber you can get right now!) and other nutrients. You should get about half your calories from carbs.

The primary source of energy for the body is carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are found in fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy products. Dietary fiber is an essential nutrient found in whole foods. Additionally, they provide a variety of health benefits. In addition to enriched refined grains, carbohydrates are found in a variety of other foods. Moreover, these grains provide iron and folic acid, which are necessary for a baby’s growth. Carbohydrates are a great source of energy at breakfast time. You should eat a diet high in proteins as well as healthy fats and carbohydrates. A high intake of carbohydrates can lead to a spike in blood sugar levels.

Energy-dense, nutrient-poor, non-core, or discretionary foods are those high in refined carbohydrates, particularly added sugars. Soft drinks, ice cream, lollies, cakes, biscuits, and pastries are among them. It is best to eat these occasionally, like once a week or once a month, rather than every day.

Choosing high-quality carbohydrates and limiting low-quality carbohydrates is the first step toward controlling your blood sugar levels, increasing your fiber and nutrient intakes, as well as improving your overall health.
