Boost Your Harvest with High-Yield Yard Long Bean Varieties!

Yardlong beans, belonging to the Cowpea subspecies, are annual plants known for their climbing vines and exceptionally long pods, measuring from 14 to 30 inches. Thriving in warm climates with a rapid 60-day growth cycle, these leguminous vegetables are not only versatile in culinary applications but also contribute to agroecological practice.

Benefits

Yardlong beans are rich in vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, contributing to a healthy and balanced diet.

Yardlong beans are a nutritional powerhouse, packed with vitamins A, C, and folate for immune support and healthy cell division. Their high fiber content promotes regular bowel movements and prevents constipation, making them a valuable addition to a healthy diet.

Planting

Yardlong beans are great for small gardens if you use a trellis. They grow upward, not too bushy, so they won’t shade other plants. Make sure to provide a support structure like a pole for them to twist around. It’s best to plant them directly in the ground, as they don’t like being moved. Wait until it’s warm, then plant the seeds about an inch deep, and they’ll grow well in both rich and poor soil.

Plant yardlong beans in warm, humid conditions by directly sowing seeds in mild weather. Space seeds 1″ deep, 3-4 inches apart in fertile, well-worked soil with ample sunlight. Use a trellis for support as pods grow long and heavy. Harvest beans at 15-20 inches in length, around 60 days after planting, watching for aphids and mites. Dry mature beans under shelter if frost or rain threatens, allowing for long-term storage.

Selecting superior hybrid seeds is key for a plentiful harvest. By choosing hybrids, you invest in a more robust and productive crop, ensuring a successful and bountiful harvest.
