A Journey to Yercaud

Yercaud is a cool location in Salem district of Tamilnadu which is still not explored by many. Although all trips are interesting and full of new experiences, there was a special thrill throughout this trip as it was a trip that was very sudden and without much preparation… We started our journey from Kochi at 4 pm with the family of my two friends.. We reached Salem at 12 am via Palakkad.. The heavy rain that fell throughout the journey was still with us even though it had reduced a little bit. I was confused as to whether to climb the hairpin bends, which I only saw in the videos of Tamil bloggers, or whether to stay in Salem and continue until morning.. Finally, we gathered courage and continued the journey.. Entry fee must be paid at the starting point of the journey to the top of the hill.. 50 rupees for a car and 20 rupees for a two-wheeler. After paying the entry fee and moving on, one more verification at the forest check post….. It was so exciting that I couldn’t forget it. In the thick darkness, in the coldness of the snow, I did not feel the least bit scared when I passed each point seeing only the distance that the light of the car could get.. It was a wide, good road. It is clear… this view at night is like a valley full of stars… no matter how much I say, no matter how many photos I take, I can’t present it in its entirety… My friend Shaiju then said that some sights are only meant to be seen. I felt that it was literally true. After crossing 20 hairpin bends, at one o’clock in the early morning, we finally reached Yercaud town.. we had booked the cottage for our stay which was about 2 km away from the town…The cottage has a big room, bed, TV, essential furniture, attached bathroom and a verandah.. They also arranged additional beds for kids.. It was a nice and clean place to stay.. The accommodation was very good. You can find their contact number from the video link that I have shared.

By the time we checked in the room, it was already two o’clock..we thought it would start at 7 am, but it was 8 o’clock when everyone was ready due to a good night’s sleep… I reached Yercaud town… The junction near Yercaud Lake is the center point of our trip… Most of the tourist points are within 15 km maximum from this point, from most places we have to turn back to reach the next place.. Although the tourist plan says that there are mainly 13 tourist points, we felt that every nook and cranny here was a tourist point. First we went to see Anna Park and the adjacent lake at that junction. It felt like it was opened exclusively for us without any of the hustle and bustle of the usual major tourist locations… We unknowingly spent more time there than planned and then got trapped into seeing as many places as we thought… Next destination was driving around Yercaud via the loop road. That way reached Manjakuttai Viewpoint… It was raining by the time we reached there… We were worried that today’s trip would be going with rain, but by the grace of God, the weather was clear later. .The trip through the silver oak trees and the viewpoint near a christian chapel, that we had unknowingly reached while walking through the orange grove was like a lottery for us… Such quiet and beautiful places that we feel like spending as much time as we want. wherever we turned the camera, beautiful views were in short for us.

Then we went straight to the ladies seat view point… The name was curious but it was interesting when I came to know that this name is related to the name of the Mother Mary’s statue there.. Then straight to the Karadiyur view point… Here there is an entry fee of 20 rupees per person… But a 500 meter journey after paying that fee was really an off road trip.. Then the journey was on to the next destination, Pagoda View Point. When I stopped at a place to ask for directions, I heard that there is no point in going there, the view there is in the morning…..But we decided to continue.  It was a place that felt a little busy after coming to Yercaud… When I went there, I was surprised by this sunset view… After coming back to Yercaud Lake Point, we had some hot sweet corn and tea from the town. As it was getting dark by the time we started going down the mountain…

Everyone fell into a comfortable slumber, leaving the driver alone, assuring ourselves that next time he would stay here for at least a day or two and see enough sights….
