A day out at the farm! Friend’s farm in Bangalore.

I’m so happy today that this video is about our outing after long months. And it was to my friend’s farm which is near Sarjapur road in Bangalore. It was such a beautiful village and we enjoyed our day with friends and family. We could see many types of farms like papaya, marigold, bitter gourd, beans etc. on the way, but I couldn’t capture all those because it was not a pre-planned video.

My daughter’s friend and family were also there. So they could play for some time and enjoy the day. My friend is doing bitter gourd farming in 1 acre. Kids played in a plane ploughed land nearby. Even heavy rains couldn’t revert them from play. So we enjoyed monsoon and mud tourism together.

I could see a tamarind tree accidentally, and I thought that I can take you all to a nostalgic memory. It was a big tree in their plot, and I could pluck some tender leaves. You will be wondering, what to do with these leaves right? Yeah, there is a traditional recipe which we make using tender tamarind leaves and fish. So I thought of preparing it and showing it to you. This yummy dish is called “puliyila curry/meen puliyila”.

It is actually a side dish for rice. In the olden days, we used to catch small fish from paddy fields using a bamboo made net (meen kooda). It will be kept in small streams which flow near the paddy fields and so many fish will be trapped in it. There were no refrigerators to keep these fish for a long time, so people used this method to preserve it for at least 2 weeks. Rather than this, they dried it and kept it for a long time.

Now we all are buying fish from the market. Small types of fish are suitable for preparing meen puliyila. I got sardines and I prepared this yummy dish. I have shared it for you. Hope you all will try this out and enjoy. And one interesting thing is that, vegetarians can try this with mushrooms instead of fish.

It was such a beautiful day out with my family and friends which I can never forget. Hope you all enjoyed my video.
