Grow Pesticide-Free Chilis at Home This Summer

Having a kitchen garden is essential for a few good reasons. It gives you fresh, homegrown veggies every day, making your meals healthier. Growing your food helps save money. You can choose to use organic methods, which is good for you and the environment. By growing your food, you’re helping the planet. It’s a step towards a more sustainable way of living. We can cultivate vegetables for everyday use, and this is the best time to start growing chili.

Chili ns is a hybrid variety suitable to plant in our kitchen garden. Plant it in February to March for excellent growth.

Benefits:

Chilies boast numerous health benefits, such as strengthening the immune system and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, they contribute to improved eye health and promote the growth of red blood cells, preventing anemia and fatigue. Additionally, regular consumption of chillies is associated with a reduced risk of allergies and certain cancers. The heat generated by chilies has also been linked to weight loss and a lower risk of type II diabetes.

Sowing:

For disease prevention, treat 1 kg of chili seeds with 6 ml of Trichoderma viride or 10 grams of Pseudomonas fluorescens before sowing to combat damping off, collar rot, root rot, and other seed-borne diseases effectively. This ensures healthier seedlings and enhances the overall resilience of the chili plants.Plant green chilies in fertile, loamy soil with good drainage. Aim for a pH value between 6.5 to 7.0. Enhance soil quality by adding vermicompost, old dung manure, or organic manure.

Germination:

Green chili seeds typically germinate in 7 to 14 days. The speed depends on the environment and seed quality. The optimal germination temperature is between 21˚C to 32˚C.

Care Tips:

Protect against diseases like bacterial leaf spot, pepper mosaic virus, damping off, anthracnose disease, leaf curl disease, and chili blight. Use neem oil.
