Today I’m sharing my experience, which happened about 11 years back when I was in my second month of pregnancy. I got chickenpox at that time. Hope you would be aware of its complications, But I was not. We consulted my doctor and she explained to me it’s risks.
She advised me that if someone acquires chickenpox in pregnancy, there are chances of risk like the child may be affected by many physical and mental disabilities. Since mine was an early stage of pregnancy, the child may get blind, mentally retarded or physically disabled. So she advised me not to take a risk and better terminate the pregnancy. All our family members’ opinions were the same. At a certain stage, I was willing to follow the doctor’s opinion.
But my husband’s decision was different. He asked me, even if the baby is normal or not, it is our baby and we have the responsibility to raise it. It made me rethink and I was so happy with his full support. So finally, we decided to proceed, objecting to the opinion of doctors and relatives. The rest of the days were full of prayers. When I prayed for a normal baby without any disabilities, my husband again asked me, how selfish you are to pray for a normal baby, when a lot of others are suffering from such challenging kids around us? It made me rethink again, but as a mom, my mind wished only for the best.
After the 5th month scanning, everything was shown normal and we were so happy. But doctors were still worried because scanning may not be 100 percent accurate. And I seemed with less fluid in 8th-month scanning and they immediately admitted there for a cesarean for the very next day. Finally, my baby was born without any abnormalities and I was relieved from the stress which I experienced for the last 6 months. I believe, it is by God’s grace I got a normal baby. I’m not against medical science. Doctors advised me because of the previous experiences they have faced and so to avoid a chance of risk. But in my case, everything happened normally. It is my humble request to all, don’t do abortion for silly reasons.
Actually, it was at that time I thought about such kids and about their parents. When we get everything normal, we will never think about others. It was really an unforgettable experience for me. And the reason I share my story is a WhatsApp audio clip which I heard recently. I could feel the sadness of mothers who are having physically or mentally challenged kids when I heard it. It is our responsibility to teach our kids to behave properly to these challenged kids, not to tease them or not to avoid them. Because it is not their fault that they were born like that and it is not our quality that we were born normally.
