5 Vegetables You Can Grow in Growbags and Pots

Growing vegetables in pots or grow bags is space-saving, portable, and aesthetically pleasing, making it ideal for urban gardening. These containers offer precise control over soil conditions, better pest control, and efficient water use.  Additionally, they reduce the risk of soil-borne diseases and are accessible to various individuals, providing a manageable and visually appealing gardening solution.

Now is the best time to begin growing everyday vegetables in our backyard. With favorable weather, this new gardening adventure not only supports our health but also helps us avoid purchasing vegetables with harmful substances.

In our kitchen garden, we can grow a few vegetables like tomatoes (Thakkali), green peppers (pachhamulakku), beans (payar), okra (venda), and spinach (cheera).

Tomato

Benefits:

Tomatoes are nutrient-rich, containing essential vitamins like C, potassium, and folate, while their antioxidant content, including lycopene, offers various health benefits.

Sowing:

Use better quality seeds from reliable sources. Soaking tomato seeds before planting can improve germination rates. To boost seed health, a Trichoderma viride fungal culture is applied before sowing, and the seeds are planted in rows with a spacing of 10-15 cm, at a depth of 2-3 cm, and gently covered with soil. The process is completed with a light watering to support the initial growth. Choose a well-draining and nutrient-rich soil for your tomato bed, ensuring it receives ample sunlight.

Soak the broad bean seeds before planting, then water them just before the soil dries out, avoiding over-watering. Keep the soil consistently moist during flowering and pod formation, and plant the seeds in well-drained soil without the need for additional feeding, as they thrive in fertile conditions.
