It is the busiest airport after Kochi.\u00a0 It was established in 1932 under the initiative of Colonel Goda Varma Raja who was a trained pilot.<\/p>\n<p>It is 7 km from the city railway station and bus station. A cargo terminal complex is also available here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) had sought airport land from KIAL to have a manufacturing base for helicopters.<\/li>\n<li>Kannur airport will have aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul unit- MRO facility.<\/li>\n<li>An aviation academy will be set up in the airport by the Rajiv Gandhi Aviation Academy and Technology on two acres of land allotted for it.
