Amara lablab is typically planted during the monsoon season, which occurs in July-August. It is a climbing or erect perennial herbaceous crop, often cultivated as an annual. The plant can grow up to 40 inches (1 m) tall, with climbing varieties extending as much as 25 ft (6 m) from the base. The recommended seed rate is 8 to 10 kg/h. Various planting methods, such as no-till drilling, broadcasting, or cultivating and drilling seed, can be employed for successful cultivation.

 Amara lablab is known for its impressive yields. When grown as an intercrop, it can produce 2500-5000 kg/ha of green pods and 450 kg/ha of dry seeds. In sole cropping, it can yield up to 1500 kg/ha of dry seeds. Lablab is a versatile crop that can be grown both as a climbing vine and as an erect plant. This adaptability allows for varied cultivation methods to suit different agricultural practices.

The crop has a rapid growth cycle, making it suitable for annual cultivation. It flowers in November-December and is ready for harvest in January-FebrLablab has the potential to improve soil fertility. Additionally, Tecomate recommends liming if the soil pH is below 5.8 and fertilizing with a phosphorus-heavy fertilizer to enhance its growth Inoculating with Cowpea Inoculant is advised to improve nitrogen fixation in the soil, promoting better overall plant health.
